Kidnappers spree continues in Edo as Ex-Dpo abducted

With Osayomore still abducted and yet to be released, the kidnapping spree in Edo State continues as retired Superintendent of Police and former Divisional Police Officer at Igarra Police Station, Chief James Omafuaire, has been abducted along with one other man.

Chief James was reported to have been kidnapped in Ikpeshi, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area after going to inspect his quarry with his wife.

He was said to be abducted alongside a customer who came to buy stones from him.

The kidnappers were also reported to have collected the sum of N200,000 from the customers before abducting him.

Speaking with reporters, the ex-DPO’s daughter, Christy Omafuaire Atie, said the abductors are yet to contact them or give any information about their where about.

“They have not contacted us. We call on the on the Edo State Governor to do everything to release my father”

Later on, his son Charles was contacted and 25 million was requested for his release.

The Kidnapped Chief has now joined the list of prominent personnel who have been abducted in the State. These include Popular Edo based musician, Joseph Osayomere and the Chief Executive officer of Ogba Zoo and Nature Park in Benin Dr Andy Ehanire, the brother of Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire.

Osayomere was kidnapped early October at Orovie village, on his back from the Palace of the Oba of Benin, where he had performed, while Ehanire was abducted late September in his office at the zoo, which claimed the lives of three policemen.

The latter have already been released after spending four weeks with the kidnappers.

Although the Kidnappers were alleged to have requested for N350million for his release, it was unknown if the amount was paid or not.

Edo State Police Spokesman, Moses Nkombe, who also confirmed the incident, noted that Policemen have been deployed to the area and the kidnappers will be apprehended soon.

The Senate earlier this month passed the Anti-kidnapping Bill into Law which states Life Imprisonment for illegal abduction of persons and death sentence if abducted victims die in their custody.

The bill also stated that anyone found guilty of negotiating with kidnappers will be sentenced to 30 years imprisonment while 20 years imprisonment awaits one who pays ransom to kidnappers.
