Nigeria rises three spots in latest FIFA rankings

Nigeria moved three places upward to 41st from 44th position in the world and fifth in Africa in the latest FIFA ranking.

The upgrade is as a result of their qualification for Russia 2018 World Cup finals and also the victory recorded against Zambia.

Germany tops the rankings with a total of 1631 points followed by Brazil with 1619 points. Ronaldo’s led Portugal and Messi’s led Argentina is third and fourth with 1446 and 1445 points respectively.

Tunisia is ranked 28th in the World and first in Africa with 834 points, Egypt 30th in the World and second in Africa with 818 points.

Senegal and Congo DR are 32nd and 35th in World and occupies the third and fourth position in Africa with 815 and 751 points respectively. Nigeria is placed 41st and fifth in the World and Africa respectively with 721 points.

Algeria who will play Nigeria in their last group B World Cup qualifier match dropped five places from 62nd to 67th in the World.

The present ranking released by FIFA is understood to influence the World Cup draws to be conducted in December 1, 2017.

Nigeria are the 18th highest ranked team out of the 32 already qualified teams for the Russia 2018 World Cup and would most likely be in pot 4 at the draws.

Morocco are the least African team, placed 48th in the World with 680 points with Panama and Bolivia bottom of the table in the 49th and 50th position with 670 and 664 points respectively.
