Has the Government changed since Boss Mustapha Became SGF?

The appointment of Boss Gida Mustapha as the new Secretary General of the Federation, following the sack of Babachir Lawal seem to be bringing positive and eventful change to President Buhari’s Administration.

Mustapha’s appointment came after Lawal, who was suspended following alleged corruption allegations against him which led to a panel headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to investigate him.

The new SGF, whose appointment was met with some criticisms and backlashes owing to the fact that he was like a “boy” to Lawal and is said to be his first cousin, has now delivered some positive result on the current administration.

PEACE WITH THE SENATE

The first move Mustapha made after his appointment was to visit the Senate to solicit support in delivering campaign promises of President Muhammadu Buhari.

“Mr. President is passionate about the three approaches he has promised. One, to fight for the security and defeat insurgency in every part of the country, two is to diversify the economy and thirdly to fight corruption. None of these three can be achieved if we do not get the support of the National Assembly, particularly now the Senate.”

The SGF’s move was timely as his predecessor was involved in some messy row with the Reps.

PARLEYING THE SOUTH-EAST

For the first time in his administration, President Muhammadu Buhari is visiting the South-East region, starting from Ebonyi State where he would commission roads and infrastructure.

Although, Buhari was slated to attend the South-East Economic Summit in December 2016, he was warned and threatened not to set his foot on the region by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

Afterwards, an excuse was given for his absence in what seem like a twin of events during the commissioning of Ogoni Cleansing.

The President’s visit is coming after he has been accused of being one-sided rather than President for all to which he denied.

His visit will also dispel the rumours of marginalization, a rumour believed by many in the region as the President has promised further projects and security for the people.

The former Vice President of the second republic and a prominent Igbo leader, Alex Ekwueme, took ill on November 1, raising serious concerns about his health with some fake media house reporting that he died in an hospital in London.

Upon hearing of his deteriorating health, President Buhari ordered that Ekwueme be flown abroad for proper medical attention.

While Ekwueme was being attended to, Mustapha, who was in London at the time, paid a visit to the Former Vice President and delivered Ppresident Buhari’s Goodwill message. He subsequently published a picture of himself and the elder statesman’s wife on twiter while announcing his visit.

“Mr Mustapha told the Ekwueme family that the President and all Nigerians are praying for the speedy recovery of the elder statesman, adding that he believed that the doctors were doing their best,” SSA to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu wrote in a Statement.

OPENNESS TO SCRUTINIZE APPOINTMENT

The President has also promised to check for any and correct lop-sidedness in his appointment after meeting with the leaders of the region.

He said he was being fair to the region by giving them four substantive appointments.

“I want to assure you that I came into government with a clear conscience and I will also leave with a clear conscience.

“Seven states in the North got Ministers of State and of the two Ministries headed by your sons, I cannot take any decision on foreign policy and investments without their input.”

While no one can say to a 100% certainty that all these are as a result of Boss Mustapha appointment, they all seem to be coming at the same time he took charge.

At the very least, Boss came with a “Good Head.”
